Tennessee baseball’s stretch of fall practices is in the books as it turns to winter. The Vols played their Fall World Series at Lindsey Nelson Stadium last week, and you can get all the info you need here.

Now that that session of practices is in the books, the grounds crew is taking the opportunity to install a new playing surface at LNS. On the grounds crew’s Instagram, @utgroundscrew, they posted a video of the beginning of the installation

“The process begins to put a new playing surface down for Lindsey Nelson stadium!,” the post’s caption said.

Lindsey Nelson Stadium uses FieldTurf for its playing surface. This is the same company that is responsible for the turf for the likes of the Carolina Panthers, Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots, Detroit Lions, Atlanta Falcons, Michigan football, Notre Dame football, Oregon football, Texas football and a good number of college baseball programs.

According to FieldTurf, Tennessee baseball installed its ‘FieldTurf DoublePlay’ surface in 2019.

Tennessee is now entering its first season with Josh Elander as the head coach. He is replacing Tony Vitello, who took the job coaching the MLB’s San Francisco Giants last month.

Elander was previously the associate head coach and was promoted to the role after a nationwide search by athletic director Danny White.

The Vols are coming off a super regional appearance last season as they look to get back to the College World Series. In the 2024 season, Tennessee lifted its first national title trophy as Vitello led the program to the SEC regular season and tournament championships before winning the national championship.

The Vols will open the season on Feb. 13 with a three-game series against Nicholls at home. The first big test will be against UCLA on Feb. 27 in Arlington, Texas. It will also play Arizona State and Virginia Tech during the trip.
