Tennessee Basketball moved to 5-0 on the season by cruising to a win over Tennessee State on Thursday night in Knoxville. The Vols won the game by a score of 89-60 as the Vols now shift their focus to the Player’s Era Tournament in Las Vegas next week.
Tennessee guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie led the way with 17 points, five assists, and four rebounds. Freshman wing Nate Ament and guard Amaree Abram both added 15 points, with Abram knocking down his first three three-point attempts in the first three minutes of the game.
While the game was lopsided in Tennessee’s favor, turnovers still land as a talking point after the game. On one hand, the Vols forced 22 turnovers from the Tigers’ offense. On the other hand, though, Tennessee had 17 giveaways itself. The Vols have struggled with turnovers on offense through the first five games this season, and will need to be sharper against better competition in Sin City.
