For another terrific set of games, Tennessee basketball star freshman Nate Ament has earned another accolade. He was named SEC Freshman of the Week by the conference on Monday, marking the third time in just four weeks that he’s won the award.

This is the first time Ament is sharing the honor, though. This one is split with Alabama forward Amari Allen.

Ament played in three games last week to win the award. During the trio of matchups in the Players Era Festival in Las Vegas, he averaged 16.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.3 steals. The team finished in fourth place in the event, beating Rutgers and Houston before falling to Kansas.

This is now the 25th time that a Tennessee player has won the SEC Freshman of the Week honor since it was reinstated in the 2005-06 season. It is the 13th time a player under Rick Barnes has claimed it in his 11-year tenure with the Vols, as well.

Ament now joins just two other Tennessee players to have earned the honor three times in a single season. The other pair are Tobias Harris in 2010-11 and Ramar Smith in 2006-07.

The Vols are back in action on Tuesday night for another test before SEC play. After a five-game set of buy games, which seemingly struck a nerve with some, the Vols are following the trip to Vegas with a road matchup at Syracuse for the ACC/SEC Challenge. Then, it’s another neutral site game with Illinois in Nashville before they host Louisville.

The game against the Orange is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and will air on ESPN2.
