Tennessee football is one of the six remaining schools in the hunt for the talents of one of the top-ranked cornerbacks in the 2027 class. Zay Hasan listed the Vols, Ohio State, South Carolina, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Florida State, according to Hayes Fawcett.
Hasan is one of the highest-rated corners in the cycle. On Rivals, he’s considered the No. 27 player in the class, No. 4 corner and top-ranked player out of North Carolina. He plays for Cardinal Gibbons in Raleigh.
Josh Heupel and past successful Tennessee staffs have recruited North Carolina extremely well. The Vols hold the commitment of five-star quarterback Faizon Brandon in the 2026 class and just signed five-star offensive lineman David Sanders Jr. from the state in the 2025 cycle. Daevin Hobbs was also a five-star prospect from the state that ended up picking UT under Heupel.

Hasan took a string of unofficial visits this year to get game day looks at teams he was interested in. He got to Rocky Top on Oct. 11, which let him see the Arkansas game in person. That was the only home SEC win for the Vols this year, which finished 8-4 (4-4 SEC).
Tennessee currently holds four commitments in the 2027 cycle. This includes one four-star, in-state recruit, Princeton Uwaifo. The offensive lineman is the No. 110 recruit in the country, via 247.
As a class, the 2027 group sits at No. 11 in the country, via 247. Other commitments include three-star defensive lineman Kadin Fife, three-star cornerback Kamauri Whitfield and three-star linebacker JP Peace. The Vols are in the mix for countless other top prospects, though, and are considered to be in a strong spot heading into the new year.
