Tennessee football has flipped a second blue-chip recruit on the opening day of the early signing period. Four-star receiver Legend Bey flipped from Ohio State to Tennessee less than a month after flipping from the Vols to the Buckeyes.

Ohio State offensive coordinator and receivers coach Brian Hartline accepted the South Florida head coaching job on Wednesday morning which opened the window for Tennessee to get back in the chase for Bey. The blue-chip receiver never made a public announcement but did officially sign with Tennessee.

Bey ranks as a four-star recruit and the No. 175 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound prospect ranks as the No. 9 athlete and No. 24 player in the state of Texas in the 2026 recruiting cycle class.

Bey is a high school quarterback at North Forney High School where he helped lead the Falcons to a 10-2 record during his senior season.

“Special playmaker, ball in his hands,” Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel said of Bey. “Got a chance to watch him live and in person too. And he is such a unique tool. His skill set, having played quarterback, the command, the presence that he has back there.

“As a playmaker, man, the ability to be involved out in space, perimeter screen, the ability to go up and high point balls, he’s extremely loose. He’s a guy that can be used in the return game as well. So just a dynamic tool that we have an opportunity to add to, to the offensive arsenal.”

The Texas playmaker originally committed to Tennessee back in late June, choosing the Vols over Duke, Texas A&M and West Virginia. Bey was a low four-star at the time but continued to shoot up the rankings after an impressive senior season.

Both Ohio State and Texas increased their efforts on Bey this fall. He eventually visited Ohio State in early November and officially flipped to the Buckeyes a few weeks afterwards. Tennessee stayed in the conversation and eventually flipped Bey back after Hartline’s departure to USF.

Bey is the second recruit to flip to the Vols on signing day, joining four-star edge rusher Carter Gooden who flipped from UCLA to Tennessee. The Vols are still hoping to flip a handful of other targets on signing day. Tennessee does have one top recruit who is a serious flip target as four-star athlete Salesi Moa listens to both Utah and Michigan.

The Vols’ 2026 recruiting class currently contains 27 commitments including from four blue-chip receivers— Moa, Bey,  five-star Tristen Keys and four-star Tyreek King. Tennessee’s 27-commit class currently ranks No. 5 nationally and No. 2 in the SEC according to the 247sports team rankings.
