Tennessee football may be in need of a transfer portal quarterback this offseason. If Joey Aguilar is unable to return, which he is currently out of eligibility, then a natural replacement would be a veteran signal caller to play in 2026 while young quarterbacks George MacIntyre and Faizon Brandon develop.
With multiple massive names already announcing their intention to transfer, people are beginning to log predictions for where each will ultimately end up landing. AtoZ writer Ryan Roberts took a stab at where he projects each to end up. His prediction was that the Vols would land Brendan Sorsby from Cincinnati.
“Texas Tech and Indiana are the two schools mentioned most when discussing Sorsby, but there will be a bidding war for the talented quarterback,” Roberts wrote. “One thing to consider, however, is that a large portion of Sorsby’s family actually lives in Knoxville…”

Sorsby is finishing up his redshirt junior season, playing two seasons at Indiana and two with the Bearcats. In 2025, Sorsby completed 61.6% of passes for 2,800 yards, 27 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also ran for 580 yards and nine scores.
The teams that are instantly in the mix for Sorsby, according to a report from Matt Zenitz, are Texas Tech and Indiana. He could also still choose to go the NFL route as a projected draft pick.
Sorsby is one of the biggest quarterback names to announce their intention to enter the portal so far, though. He joins Sam Leavitt of Arizona State, DJ Lagway of Florida, Dylan Raiola of Nebraska, Josh Hoover of TCU and Drew Mestemaker of North Texas as the top names to enter to this point.
As far as outgoing players for Tennessee, the Vols have lost six players to the portal, featuring quarterback Jake Merklinger, defensive back Boo Carter, defensive lineman Jamal Wallace, edge rusher Kellen Lindstrom, linebacker Brenden Anes and defensive back Marcus Goree Jr.
