Tennessee football is in need of a new quarterback next season, with Vols signal caller Joey Aguilar out of eligibility following his lone year in Knoxville. Josh Heupel has the options of going young with either Faizon Brandon or George MacIntyre, or he could grab a top transfer portal prospect.
One of the top names in the portal this cycle is Cincinnati transfer Brendan Sorsby. However, the top-ranked transfer in the country according to ESPN is seemingly not looking at Tennessee.
Instead, Pete Thamel reported that he’s going to visit Texas Tech on Friday and then head to Baton Rouge to see Lane Kiffin and LSU. The majority of projections have him headed to join the Red Raiders.

Sorsby just finished up his redshirt junior season, playing two seasons at Indiana and two with the Bearcats. In 2025, Sorsby completed 61.6% of passes for 2,800 yards, 27 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also ran for 580 yards and nine scores.
He will be playing in his final year of college this upcoming season. That would match the timeline that Tennessee is likely looking for. With Brandon and MacIntyre being extremely talented but inexperienced, a one-year bridge quarterback would make a lot of sense.
Other options to keep in mind at quarterback this cycle include Arizona State’s Sam Leavitt and TCU’s Josh Hoover, though the Vols are not directly tied to either just yet. Tennessee could go a cheaper route and end up with a lower-name quarterback or roll with one of the young options, as well.
