
Ja’Kobi Gillespie’s career-high 34 points helped propel the 21st-ranked Volunteers to their first SEC win on Tuesday night. Tennessee bounced back from a weekend loss to Arkansas with an 85-71 win over Texas in the Food City Center.
Gillespie was a true difference maker against the Longhorns. He had 22 points at the halftime break and finished with 34, going 12-of-17 from the field and 5-of-8 from three-point range. Gillespie also tallied four rebounds and five assists in the Vols’ victory.
Tennessee created some separation in the first half with a big run and kept the lead for the rest of the game. The Vols entered halftime with a 48-33 lead and carried that through to the end of the game.
