After committing to Tennessee football in the transfer portal this past Saturday, Oklahoma State wide receiver transfer Gavin Freeman has instead signed with Baylor, according to a report from Matt Zenitz. He was one of just two offensive commits for the Vols in this portal class so far, joining LSU offensive tackle Ory Williams.

Freeman, a slot receiver for the Cowboys, will have one year of eligibility remaining. At just 5-foot-8, he caught 53 passes for 481 yards and four touchdowns. He started every game for Oklahoma State and led the team in receiving yards and touchdowns.

Freeman also served as a kick and punt returner for Oklahoma State. He started his career at Oklahoma. He played two seasons there before playing the past two with Oklahoma State. He is from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where he played for Heritage Hall in high school.

The decision to flip for Freeman should get him a good bit of additional play time on offense in his final year of eligibility. He was not in line to play much for the Vols, with Braylon Staley returning after snagging SEC Freshman of the Year honors. The Vols also boast the likes of Tyreek King and Joakim Dodson as slot options.

Freeman may have returned kicks and punts, which was a spot that Tennessee struggled in a year ago, but his special teams role may have been the extent of his playtime.

Now, he’ll join a Baylor team with an easier path to the field. The Bears are all but officially bringing in Florida transfer DJ Lagway at quarterback and are coming off a 5-7 (3-6 Big 12) season.
