Shortly after Josh Heupel and newly hired Tennessee football cornerbacks coach Michael Hunter Jr. stopped by five-star recruit Joshua Dobson’s high school, he was scheduled to make his way to Knoxville for a visit this weekend. However, those plans have changed.
Dobson announced that he will reschedule his visit to see the Vols and will take a look at Texas A&M this weekend, instead. Currently, there is no official date for when he will travel to Knoxville to see Tennessee.
Dobson is as big of a recruit as it gets. The cornerback is considered a five-star recruit and the No. 3 player in the cycle according to 247 Composite.
Tennessee was one of the first schools to ever get in the mix for Dobson. The Vols extended their offer to him back in June of 2024 after a school camp he attended. Since then, he’s gotten to Knoxville for visits at least three times, including for a game day trip this past season.

Just because Dobson is rescheduling his visit doesn’t mean Tennessee is out of the race, either. However, it’ll be important for the Vols’ new defensive staff to continue to build relationships and explain how he’d fit in the new system.
While Hunter, the cornerbacks coach, has already met with Dobson in person during the trip with Heupel the other week, defensive coordinator Jim Knowles and co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach Anthony Poindexter will also have to play a role.
This new defensive staff replaces former defensive coordinator and safeties coach Tim Banks, who was fired, and secondary coach Willie Martinez, who was not retained by Knowles once taking over. Dobson’s relationship with Heupel and other coaches on campus is still intact, though, and could go a long way.
