Tennessee football had a big weekend in the transfer portal landing seven players out of the portal. None of the seven players project as starters for the Vols next season but Tennessee needed to add depth pieces in the portal and they successfully did that over the weekend.
That started with West Virginia offensive lineman Donovan Haslam who can play both offensive tackle and offensive guard. Tennessee had been searching for a running back for a while before Tulane transfer Javin Gordon committed on Saturday afternoon.
Josh Heupel and his staff replaced blocking tight end Jack Van Dorselaer by landing South Alabama’s Trent Thomas. Then on Sunday, Tennessee finally landed a quarterback in Colorado transfer Ryan Staub who will compete but likely be a backup for the Vols in 2026.
Tennessee added even more depth on defense, especially in the defensive backfield. The Vols landed Michigan defensive back Tevis Mecalf, Colorado cornerback Isaiah Hardge and Appalachian State safety DJ Burks.
After landing seven commits over the weekend, Tennessee football’s transfer class now contains 18 commitments. That includes five players on the offensive side of the ball, 11 on the defensive side of the ball and two pure specialists.
Here’s a look at where Tennessee’s transfer class ranks nationally.
