Why The Next Few Days Are Extremely Important For Tennessee Basketball

It’s been a busy first two weeks of the offseason for Tennessee basketball as Rick Barnes and his staff look to rebuild the Vols roster after a third straight trip to the Elite Eight. Tennessee has lost six players to the transfer portal to date and has six incoming players including three transfers.

This week could be another big one for Tennessee with a pair of high level transfers visiting and a top prep prospect announcing his commitment. Here’s what to know ahead of a critical few days in the portal for Tennessee.

Notre Dame Transfer Chris Haralson Begins Official Visit Tuesday Evening

Wing Chris Haralson arrives in Knoxville on Tuesday evening for an official visit that is expected to last until Wednesday night.

Haralson is coming off a freshman season where he averaged 16.2 points, four rebounds and 2.6 assists per game for the Fighting Irish. The 6-foot-7, 220-pound forward played both on the wing and a power forward for Notre Dame last season and shot 51.5% from the field and 20% from three-point range.

While Haralson needs to develop as a shooter, Tennessee likes his ability to create offense, his defensive potential and positional versatility.

The former McDonald’s All-American is down to a top group that includes North Carolina, Ohio State and Tennessee. Haralson appears to be nearing a decision.

VCU Transfer Terrence Hill Jr. Begins Official Visit Wednesday

Tennessee continues to hold its breath in hopes that combo guard Terrence Hill Jr. will make it to campus uncommitted after visiting Kansas on Monday. But as of Tuesday afternoon, Hill remains uncommitted.

Hill is one of the very top players in the transfer portal after averaging 15 points, 2.8 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-3 guard is a talented and efficient scorer, shooting 46.6% from the field and making 81 three-pointers at a 37% clip.

The 6-foot-1 combo guard scored 20-plus points seven times last season including a career-high 34 points in VCU’s come from behind NCAA Tournament win over North Carolina.

Hill is scheduled to begin his official visit with Tennessee on Wednesday before departing on Friday.

Four-Star Chris Washington Jr. Is Announcing His College Commitment Thursday

Murfreesboro native Chris Washington Jr. was originally scheduled to officially visit Tennessee for the Auburn game in February before inclement weather forced him to postpone the trip.

Washington finally made it to Knoxville on Tuesday just two days before he announces his college commitment. The 6-foot-9 wing is down to a top group that includes Auburn, Ole Miss, Southern Cal, Tennessee and Villanova. Tennessee is in a good spot ahead of his announcement.

Washington ranks as a four-star recruit and the No. 43 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. He also ranks as the No. 16 small forward and the top player in the state of Tennessee in the 2026 recruiting cycle. The Providence Christian School standout is the fourth highest ranked un-committed player remaining in the 2026 cycle.

The blue-chip recruit is announcing his decision at 4:30 p.m. ET on Thursday.
