Yahoo! Sports NFL analysts are issuing an apology for disrespectful actions during a segment breaking down Jermod McCoy’s medical status on Friday night during the NFL Draft.
Following the end of the second round on Friday, Yahoo’s Charles Robinson gave a detailed explanation of why teams have concerns with the medicals that have caused McCoy to slide down in the NFL Draft.
“As I started to talk to teams about exactly what the problem was here, and this news has come out that it’s not the ACL tear issue, like, that’s fine. But he has a bone plug, which is basically a piece of bone and cartilage was used to repair a degenerative cartilage issue in that same knee, and now there is a thought process amongst doctors that this is now going to have to be replaced again. Maybe not immediately, but at some point in the future,” Robinson said in the clip.
The panelists on Yahoo’s draft show began laughing as they described their reactions to Robinson’s report, which angered fans online. The laughing wasn’t at McCoy or the report, but it didn’t come across well. The original video has over one million views and more than 130 comments, most of which are taking offense to the panelists’ reactions.
“Dude is missing out on living his dream with generational money and these losers are laughing at his injury,” one user commented. “This s*** is pathetic.”
Two of the panelists have issued apologies and clarifications for their behavior in the clip.
“Great reporting from Charles of course and very honestly I wish I had reacted better to hearing it in the moment,” Yahoo’s Matt Harmon wrote on X. “It wasn’t funny. It’s a long show and I was just so taken aback by the details that I reacted in a stupid way by awkwardly laughing. I apologize, regret it and will do better in the future.”
“Charles crushed this reporting,” Yahoo’s Jason Fitz posted to X. “Clearly we weren’t laughing at the report or the player – we were laughing at ourselves & our own visceral reactions to the details. For people to see it differently means I didn’t do my job well. I apologize. I’ll do better / be better next time.”
