Former Tennessee defensive back Jack Luttrell has medically retired and is no longer listed on Auburn Football’s online roster, according to a report from AL.com’s Peter Rauterkus on Tuesday. Luttrell played for Tennessee and Arizona before transferring to Alex Golesh’s Auburn program during the portal window in January.

Rauterkus’ report states that Luttrell was limited during the Tigers’ spring camp slate as he battled an injury. Additionally, Luttrell only played in three games with the Wildcats during the 2025 season due to a shoulder injury.

Luttrell originally committed to Tennessee out of Colquitt County High School as a three-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting cycle. He was committed to Tennessee for more than 16 months before enrolling at UT, and took trips to Knoxville for multiple visits and even a 7-on-7 tournament that was held in Farragut.

Luttrell played in three games for the Volunteers during the 2023 season while earning a redshirt. He did not record any stats during that season.

After entering the portal in December 2023, Luttrell wound up at Arizona. He played in 12 games for the Wildcats during the 2024 season, racking up 39 total tackles, three interceptions, and one forced fumble. He also returned a pair of punts.

Luttrell appeared in just three games during the 2025 season with injuries, tallying three total tackles and one interception against Hawai’i in the season opener.

Luttrell’s transfer to Auburn reunited him with a familiar coach for a short period. Tim Banks was fired as Tennessee’s defensive coordinator following the 2025 season, but quickly landed a job with Golesh’s Tigers. Banks will serve as Auburn’s co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach and held the same positions during Luttrell’s 2023 season on Rocky Top.

Prior to his reported medical retirement, Luttrell was set to return to Knoxville for the first time since he left when the Tigers roll into Neyland Stadium for a regular-season SEC game on Oct. 3.
