More From RTI: Samford Transfer Outfielder Visiting Tennessee Baseball
RHP Brayden Krenzel
Krenzel showed serious promise in his freshman season and entered the 2026 season as a key piece of Tennessee’s bullpen. That remained the case entering SEC play when Krenzel allowed five runs in 0.2 innings as the Vols blew a late-game lead in their series rubber match at Georgia.
The right-handed pitcher never recovered his footing after the outing, posting a 2-3 record, 9.35 ERA and 1.67 WHIP in 17.1 innings pitched. Krenzel was even worse in SEC play where he posted 39.00 ERA and 4.67 WHIP in three innings pitched.
SS Ariel Antigua
Antigua has had a role each of his three years at Tennessee but has never earned a consistent starting role. He started 40 games in his three years including 20 as a junior in 2025 and 14 as a junior during the 2026 season.
The Florida native is an extremely talented defender who made a number of flashy plays with his glove over the last three years. Tennessee often used him as a late-inning defensive sub which led to him playing in 130 games over the last three seasons.
INF Finley Bates
Bates transferred to Tennessee from San Diego State ahead of his junior season but played just sparingly. The middle infielder played in 12 and started two games during the 2026 season, hitting .333 with one home run and two RBIs.
The Colorado native split playing time at shortstop and second base during his sophomore season at San Diego State but is capable of also playing third base. He hit .300 with one home run, 14 total extra-base hits and 23 RBIs while stealing eight bases as a sophomore.
UTL Chris Newstrom
Newstrom entered his sophomore season with a chance to earn an everyday starting job but did not take advantage, hitting just .173 with one home run and seven RBIs. He started 15 and played in 27 games for the Vols in his sophomore season.
The utility man can play both the infield and the outfield with his versatility being a strength. But outside of a strong non conference weekend in Texas against UCLA and Arizona State, Newstrom did not produce in his sophomore season. He ended up playing in just three games in SEC play.
INF Ethan Moore
Moore did not play in a single game while redshirting his freshman year in Knoxville. The Illinois native was a top 100 high school recruit coming out of Oak Park and River Forest High School in Illinois. The Cincinnati Reds drafted Moore in the 18th round of last summer’s MLB Draft.
However, Moore struggled during the fall entering his freshman year and never earned any playing time during the 2026 season.
UTL Hunter High
High was a program glue guy for three years at Tennessee. The Nashville native played in 40 games but started just one, hitting .343 with two home runs, three doubles and five RBIs in his time at Tennessee.
High’s final at-bat was a game-ending home run in Tennessee’s run-rule win over Belmont.
1B Evan Hankins
Hankins played in five games and earned one start early in his freshman season, he didn’t record a hit in six at-bats but did work a walk and score a run,
The Bristol, Virginia native’s season ended in March when he tore his ACL in pregame warmups ahead of Tennessee baseball’s series finale at Vanderbilt.
