Tennessee football has its quarterback for the 2027 class, and he’s one who’s gone under a lot of radars. Despite attracting offers from plenty of Power Four programs and top teams, Derrick Baker still holds just a three-star status.

This weekend, Baker is continuing to impress, though. During the OT7 Finals, a 7-on-7 event featuring top prospects, Baker starred for C1N, Cam Newton’s team.

After the first day of games, in which the team played in three games, Baker was named one of the top performers in the event. Rivals named him the player with the No. 9 best day in the event.

Baker committed to the Vols on Feb. 11, 2026. Since then, he’s added offers from SEC squads South Carolina and Georgia. Other teams that have extended offers in his recruitment include Virginia Tech, Florida State, Virginia, Illinois, Auburn, Ohio State, TCU, Mississippi State, West Virginia, Miami, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Indiana and more Power Four programs.

Baker ranks as the No. 731 player in the cycle, via 247 Composite. He is the No. 40 quarterback and No. 89 player from the state of Georgia, as well. He is from Alpharetta and plays for Milton High School.

He is one of 14 commitments in the 2027 class for the Vols. This features a new addition on Saturday, four-star legacy linebacker Kenneth Simon II. Simon, the son of former Tennessee star Kevin Simon, was formerly committed to Alabama before flipping to UT.

The Vols are in a strong position to land more talent over the next few weeks, as well. Official visits seem to be going well and prospects are nearing their commitment announcements. Currently, the class ranks as the No. 41 group in the country on 247.
