
After a strong start to the event, Tennessee football class of 2027 quarterback commit Derrick Baker earned an impressive accolade for his showing at the OT7 Finals. In a list compiled by Rivals, he was named the No. 9 overall performer regardless of position.
Baker plays for Cam Newton’s team in the OT7 7-on-7 league. The team, C1N, finished with a 16-9 record, which was the fourth-best mark in the league.
Baker ranks as the No. 731 player in the cycle, via 247 Composite. He is the No. 40 quarterback and No. 89 player from the state of Georgia, as well. He is from Alpharetta and plays for Milton High School.

Baker committed to the Vols on Feb. 11, 2026. Since then, he’s added offers from SEC squads South Carolina and Georgia. Other teams that have extended offers in his recruitment include Virginia Tech, Florida State, Virginia, Illinois, Auburn, Ohio State, TCU, Mississippi State, West Virginia, Miami, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Indiana and more Power Four programs.
He is one of 16 commitments in the 2027 class for the Vols. With official visits continuing across the country, UT has taken advantage and landed a string of commitments over the past month. Overall, the group sits at No. 37 in the country on 247.
Baker continues a string of strong quarterback commitments under Josh Heupel. Currently, two of them are battling for the starting job on campus as young players. True freshman and former five-star Faizon Brandon and redshirt-freshman and former four-star George MacIntyre are fighting for the QB1 role.
Other notable commitments include five-star Nico Iamaleava and four-stars Jake Merklinger and Tayven Jackson.
