Tennessee football has picked up the commitment of a priority secondary target in the 2027 class. On Friday, four-star safety Marcus Jones announced he has committed to the Vols following a string of official visits.

Jones was in Knoxville for his official on June 12. Shortly after, predictions came rolling in for him to pick Tennessee over a number of other big-name suitors. He also took official visits to Ole Miss, North Carolina and Michigan.

Jones ranks as a four-star, according to 247 Composite. He is placed as the No. 263 player in the nation, No. 22 safety and No. 9 player out of Pennsylvania. He is from Haverford, Pennsylvania, where he plays for The Haverford School.

Jones’ primary recruiter at Tennessee is Anthony Poindexter. That’s the Vols’ new co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach. Jones has also been in contact with head coach Josh Heupel, defensive coordinator Jim Knowles and more on the staff.

Jones is now the 16th commitment for Tennessee after four-star defensive lineman Kadin Fife backed off his pledge and reopened his recruitment. The class ranks as the No. 54 group in the country on 247, though, with a lot more work needing to be done to climb up the rankings.

Other defensive backs committed to Tennessee so far include three-star safety Jaden Butler, three-star cornerback Brandon ‘Slim’ Leavell, three-star cornerback Dylan Haley and three-star cornerback Carter Jamison. Three-star athlete and former Florida State commit DaYon Cooper also can play defensive back, but seems to be on track to play wide receiver with UT.

Other four-star commitments on 247 for the Vols at this point feature in-state wide receiver Kesean Bowman, legacy linebacker Kenneth Simon II, local tight end Malik Howard and in-state offensive tackle Princeton Uwaifo.
