Lady Vols Basketball Legend Candace Parker is Receiving a Massive Honor in Knoxville This Weekend

One of the best players not just in Lady Vols basketball history, but the history of the game, Candace Parker, is getting her flowers this weekend. The national champion at Tennessee and multi-time WNBA champion and MVP is being inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville on Saturday.

Parker will be enshrined in a ceremony starting at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday at the Tennessee Theatre. Tickets are available here.

Other inductees to the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in this class include players Elena Delle Donne, Amaya Valdemoro and Isabelle Fijalkowski, coaches Cheryl Reeve and Kim Muhl, ESPN color analyst Doris Burke and posthumous veteran honoree Barbara Kennedy-Dixon.

Parker will be the 11th Lady Vol player to be enshrined in the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. This features Cindy Noble and Patricia Roberts (2000), Holly Warlick (2001), Cindy Brogdon (2002), Daedra Charles and Bridgette Gordon (2007), Jill Rankin (2008), Nikki McCray (2012), Chamique Holdsclaw (2018) and Tamika Catchings (2021).

She’ll also be the 17th person overall with a Tennessee affiliation to earn a spot in the Hall. Non-players feature coaches Pat Summitt (1999), Mickie DeMoss (2018) and Carolyn Peck (2023), and administrators Gloria Ray (2010), Joan Cronan (2019) and Danielle Donehew (2025).

From her career with the Lady Vols, spanning from 2004-08, Parker averaged 19.4 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. She is the No. 3 all-time career scorer in the program (2,137) and the No. 8 all-time rebounder (972). She led Tennessee to national titles in 2007 and 2008, and her iconic No. 3 is retired.

Parker went on to be the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft. She became a two-time MVP and three-time champion, winning one with the Sparks, Sky and Aces. Her No. 3 is retired by both Los Angeles and Chicago.
