Tennessee Football looks to be adding to its staff this summer. According to a report from Volquest’s Brent Hubbs on Thursday afternoon, Tennessee has added former Michigan staff member Josh Sinagoga to its staff in a defensive analyst role.
Heupel’s reported addition of Sinagoga to the defensive side of things is a calculated move. Sinagoga had been an offensive analyst with the Wolverines since 2023 and was on Michigan’s championship staff that same season. But with him reportedly working with the defensive side of things at Tennessee, Sinagoga will be able to provide a valuable offensive-minded and quarterback-minded outlook on the Vols’ new defensive scheme under defensive coordinator Jim Knowles.
Prior to his time with Michigan, Sinagoga worked with both the quarterbacks and wide receivers at Youngstown State from 2020 to 2022. He also served as the Penguins’ recruiting coordinator during that time and helped YSU capture its highest-rated recruiting class in school history, according to UM.
He also spent some time at Central Michigan, Iowa, and Cincinnati before that. Sinagoga was a quarterback at Northwood University in Midland, MI.

Sinagoga’s reported addition is one of several moves that Tennessee has made on the defensive side of the ball this offseason after struggling mightily last season. During the Vols’ 2025 campaign, Tennessee ranked third-to-last in the SEC in total defense. UT parted ways with DC Tim Banks and select members of his coaching staff after the season, paving the way for new blood to enter the Tennessee coaching ranks.
During the offseason, Tennessee went out and hired Penn State’s Jim Knowles as DC, Penn State’s Anthony Poindexter as co-DC and safeties coach, Penn State’s Andrew “AJ” Jackson as LEOs coach, and Virginia Tech’s Derek Jones as the cornerbacks coach.
Tennessee Football has not officially announced this reported hiring at the time of this publication.
