Cornerback Kamauri Whitfield won’t play his college football for Tennessee after backing off his commitment back in February. But Whitfield is again slated to play at Neyland Stadium during his freshman season after committing to Florida on Monday afternoon.

Whitfield ranks as a three-star recruit and the No. 734 player in the 2027 recruiting class according to the 247sports composite rankings. The 5-foot-10 prospect also ranks as the No. 72 cornerback and the No. 60 overall player in the state of Florida.

The Orlando native originally committed to Tennessee last October after unofficially visiting for the Vols’ victory against Arkansas at Neyland Stadium. But after visiting Florida for a January junior day, Whitfield de-committed from Tennessee a month later.

Whitfield took summer official visits Florida, Oregon and Nebraska before eventually deciding to stay instate and commit to the Gators.

The Gators are entering their first season under head coach Jon Sumrall. The former Tulane coach has hit the ground running on the recruiting trail with the Gators landing 10 commitments in the 2027 recruiting cycle to date. Florida’s class ranks No. 10 nationally and No. 5 in the SEC according to the 247sports team rankings.

Tennessee holds commitments from four-star safety Marcus Jones, three-star safety Jaden Butler, three-star cornerback Brandon Leavall, three-star cornerback Dylan Haley and three-star cornerback Carter Jamison.

Tennessee’s 16-commit recruiting class currently ranks No. 43 nationally and No. 14 in the SEC according to the 247sports team rankings.
