VFL Ja’Kobi Gillespie put together another strong showing in the NBA 2K Summer League on Saturday afternoon in a blowout win over the New York Knicks. This game, obviously, had a bit fewer stakes than the last matchup between the two organizations in the NBA Finals, though.
In the 70-49 win, Gillespie had a team-high 24 minutes on the court. He put up 14 points on 6/14 shooting from the field and 2/6 shooting from three-point land. He also had five rebounds, five assists, two steals, and just one turnover in the game. His performance set him up with a +15 plus/minus, which was the highest mark for either team in the game.

This was Gillespie’s second outing in the Vegas portion of Summer League competition. In the Spurs’ first matchup against the Hawks, the former Vol went for 12 points on 5/13 shooting and 2/6 three-point shooting in 23 minutes as a starter. He also tallied three rebounds, six assists, and one turnover in that game.
Gillespie is one of three former Vols playing on the Spurs’ SL team this month, alongside Zakai Zeigler and Igor Milicic. Zeigler is averaging 5.5 minutes, 1.0 points, 0.5 rebounds, and 1 assist per game. Milicic, meanwhile, is averaging 9.5 MPG, 3.5 PPG, 4 RPG, and 1 APG.
While he was at Tennessee for just one season, Gillespie made the most of his time as a Vol. He averaged 18.4 points, 5.4 assists and 2.8 rebounds on his way to earning All-SEC honors and leading Tennessee back to the Elite Eight for a third straight season.
Gillespie has a familiar opponent in sight for the Bucks’ game on Sunday night at 9 ET on ESPN. He will take on his former teammate, Nate Ament, with Milwaukee.
