Vols beat out Alabama for coveted in-state offensive lineman

Tennessee’s strong week of recruiting along the offensive line continued on Friday afternoon.

In-state offensive lineman William Griffin-Parker committed to Tennessee over Alabama and Florida, the three-star prospect from Pearl-Cohn in Nashville announced on CBS Sports HQ.

“At the end point, it was about my relationship with the coaches,” Griffin-Parker said about his decision. “Most kids can’t say they have a relationship with every offensive coach on the staff, and that’s one of the things I have right now.

“With everything going on in the world, they’re giving their players the chance to speak their mind about what’s going on.. I think that’s the best choice for me.”

Parker is ranked as the No. 413 overall player in the country by the 247Sports composite rankings and the No. 34 offensive tackle in the class of 2021. The composite considers him the 13th-best player in the state of Tennessee.

Rivals considers the 6-foot-5, 325-pounder the 54th-best offensive tackle and 12th-best player in Tennessee.

The Vols offered Parker in December of 2018, which was his third offer and second SEC offer. Parker now holds 16 offers, including offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma and South Carolina.

“My focus now is just to get better,” Griffin-Parker said. “Hopefully Metro (Nashville) will let us have a season just so we can get to state and I can go out with a bang.

“They’re getting something that most people don’t get — somebody who hasn’t really been trained before.. a player that’s going to listen, that’s coachable.”

Parker is the second offensive lineman to commit to Tennessee this week. Three-star offensive tackle J’Marion Gooch from Seymour, TN flipped his commitment from Auburn to the Vols on Monday. Parker is the third offensive line commit for UT in the class of 2021, joining Gooch and three-star Colby Smith.

Tennessee now has 26 commits in the class of 2021. The Vols have the No. 6 overall recruiting class in the country according to the 247 Composite.
