Five Impressive Summer Enrollees

Derek Barnett (No. 9) warms up before practice.
 Derek Barnett

Like his counterpart, Barnett is bigger than your average defensive end at 6-3, 267 pounds. Many projected Barnett to play tackle at Tennessee, but his agility, strength and speed will allow the staff to leave him at end. He’s probably a little ahead of Hendrix at this point as far as his development, but not by much. Barnett made a really nice play in 11-on-11 work this week when he pushed the offensive tackle into the backfield and stopped Derrell Scott for a loss. The Vols haven’t had anyone at end with the ability of either Barnett or Hendrix the past few seasons. Look for their roles to grow as camp progresses.
