RTI Pick Six: Week 9

Corey Vereen-1

No. 3 Ole Miss (-3.5) @ No. 24 LSU TV: CBS 7:15 pm  Saturday

Daniel: This is somewhat of a sneaky game for Ole Miss. LSU has lost its status as an upper-echelon SEC West team this season. But the Tigers looked really good in dismantling Kentucky last weekend and nobody has ever looked at a night game in Baton Rouge as an easy win. Ole Miss is clearly playing as well as anybody in the nation right now. The Rebels haven’t had any emotional letdown after their massive win over Alabama, as they cruised right by Texas A&M and Tennessee. Their defensive front will be good enough to limit LSU’s improving rushing attack and Bo Wallace, Laquon Treadwell and company will put enough points on the board to avoid the upset. Winner: Ole Miss 31-21

Houston: Wow, this game has all the makings of a heavyweight fight. Ole Miss is riding high and appears to be the most complete team in the SEC, but LSU may have found their stride a little bit in recent weeks and brings more talent into this game than the Rebels. As far as which is the better team right now, I think that’s a very tough question. Death Valley will be ready for this one, but Bo Wallace proved against Texas A&M that he can get the job done in tough environments. LSU’s secondary is incredibly talented and I expect them to make life difficult for players like Laquon Treadwell and Vince Sanders, but can the Tigers score enough against the Ole Miss defense to pull out the victory? Ole Miss being only a 3.5 point favorite gives me some pause in this one considering how well they’ve played and I smell a rat, but I promised myself I wouldn’t doubt Dr. Freeze again. My head says LSU by 4, but I’ll flip it for the Rebels.  Winner: Ole Miss 24-20

Reed: This is a sneaky tough game to pick. Ole Miss has played very good football for three weeks and they’re due a letdown. LSU, on the other hand, looks to be finding their stride a bit. Can Ole Miss go into Death Valley and win a big game at night? Bo Wallace will have to continue to take care of the football. The Rebel defense leads the SEC in yards allowed per play while LSU ranks ninth in the same category. Ole Miss is simply more proven at this point and is getting more production from the QB position. If Bo Wallace continues to play well, the Rebels will remain undefeated. My heart says LSU, but I’ve been burned by picking against Ole Miss too many times this year. Winner: Fighting Freeze’s 24-17

Mark: The Rebels are 7-0 and their defense is frightening, allowing less than 11 points per contest. The Rebels toughest games the rest of the way (Auburn, Mississippi State) are at home. Get past the Tigers on Saturday night and Ole Miss has a great shot at playing for the SEC title. I’ve seen fire and I’ve seen rain. I’ve also seen Ole Miss beat Alabama.

On the other hand, I haven’t seen LSU beat anyone decent yet this season. (Please put your hands down, Wisconsin fans.)
Is there any Les Miles magic left? It’s a night game at Death Valley, so I’m sure there is a fake punt on second down from their own two yard line that The Hat is waiting to unleash.

Won’t matter. The Rebels are for real, yo (Jesse Pinkman voice). Winner: Ole Miss 27-17
