Coaching
There were a few questionable calls on offense, but the coaching staff more than made up for it in this game. The Vols went under center on more than a couple occasions on offense, and the defensive coaching staff drew up a great game plan that shook Northwestern’s passing game off its rails. Butch Jones didn’t make any critical mistakes in any decisions in the win, and he improved to 3-2 in bowl games and won his 3rd straight. Jones and his staff appeared to be on a mission to prove the end of the season was no fluke, and it led to Tennessee’s largest bowl victory in program history.
