9. Vols defeat San Diego St. 62-59 (2010; Round of 64)
Facing a pesky San Diego State team led by Kawhi Leonard, the Vols and Aztecs came down to the final possession, one in which UT was able to force a bad shot from Leonard that missed the mark and gave Bruce Pearl a win on his 50th birthday. It wasn’t UT’s cleanest NCAA tournament win, but a surprise evening from Melvin Goins (15 points) helped UT advance in what turned out to be a Sweet 16 run.
