4. Vols defeat Iowa 78-65 in overtime (2014; First Four)
The setting wasn’t as grand as the Vols and Hawkeyes battled in Dayton, Ohio, in the ‘First Four’ games of the tournament, which is essentially a glorified term for play-in games. But after falling down by double-digits in the first half, the Vols battled back in the second to force overtime.
It was then all UT in the extra frame as the Vols pulled away with a 13-point advantage in overtime. This game might have only seemed like a play-in victory for the Vols, but it set up an unforeseen Sweet 16 run that wouldn’t have been possible without this gritty win.
