Special Teams

The special teams unit is normally the Vols’ best unit in any given game. This time, however, it proved to be extremely costly. Tennessee missed three field goals in this game. Granted, one was from 51-yards out, but the other two were a bit more makeable from 47 and 44 yards away. Brent Cimaglia nailed his first ever field goal attempt from 51-yards, then he missed his next two. Aaron Medley missed his first field goal attempt of the season from 44 yards, then he made his second from 27 yards to tie the game. Trevor Daniel boomed two punts but uncharacteristically shanked a punt in this game as well, and the Vols’ kick return coverage allowed the Gators to return a kick into Tennessee territory in the fourth quarter. And that ensuing drive led to a touchdown for Florida.
