Monday was a busy day for Jordan Morant. He added several big-time offers from some well-known programs on Monday, including a scholarship offer from Tennessee.

Morant is a four-star safety in the 2020 class who plays for Bergen Catholic in Oradell, New Jersey. He tweeted out on Monday afternoon that the Vols had extended a scholarship offer to him.

According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Morant is the No. 178 overall player and No. 8 safety in the 2020 class. He’s also the fifth-ranked player in the state of New Jersey. Not only did he get an offer from Tennessee on Monday, but LSU and USC also extended offers to him on the same day. He also holds offers from Alabama, Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Auburn, and many others.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound defensive back has visited Penn State multiple times already, and the Nittany Lions have an early edge over other schools recruiting him because of that. He visited Penn State in February, April, and July of 2018.

It’s worth noting that Morant attends the same high school that current UT starting quarterback Jarrett Guarantano went to. Coming out of high school, Guarantano was ranked as the No. 1 dual-threat QB in the 2016 class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

On film, Morant’s toughness and physicality stand out early. He plays both safety and cornerback, and he’s very good at press coverage. He plays a lot of man coverage on his film, but he can cover in zone effectively too. Morant is a really good run defender, too. He excels in a lot of aspects as a defensive back, so it’s easy to see why he’s getting so much attention from high profile programs.

In his high school career, Morant has 110 tackles, six tackles for loss, a sack, four interceptions, 11 passes defended, and a forced fumble according to MaxPreps. He’s returned an interception and a kick-off for a touchdown in the last two years too.

Tennessee will be targeting defensive backs a lot in the 2020 cycle, and Morant figures to get quite a bit of attention. His connection with Jarrett Guarantano should help the Vols separate themselves from other programs, but Penn State’s early influence will be a big factor as well.
