Nathanael: D

The only reason I’m not giving the Vols’ secondary an “F” is because they managed to intercept Kyle Trask twice. Theo Jackson made a great play on the ball, and Alontae Taylor had great awareness to intercept it in the end zone. Jackson, too, had a nice pick.

Aside from those two plays, Tennessee’s secondary was flat out bad on Saturday. They weren’t helped out much by the Vols’ defensive line not being able to get pressure on Trask, but it’s still amazing to me to see how this group has regressed from last year, and they weren’t good last season, either. Bryce Thompson’s return did little to spark this group, and he was rusty and didn’t play all that great himself.

The grade should really be a D, or maybe even an F, but Tennessee’s secondary managed to pick off Trask twice. Alontae Taylor and Theo Jackson played a deep ball down the seem perfectly resulting in Taylor’s first career interception. Jackson also had a pick of his own.

But aside from the interceptions, Florida’s receivers ran wild and free all day long. It resulted in 293 yards of passing and two touchdowns for Trask. He was 20-for-28 on the afternoon.

  1. I have been a vol fan since I was 5 or 6 years old and am approaching 70. This MAY be the worst I have ever seen a Tennessee team look.

  2. I totally agree that at some point the players have to make the plays that are there in front of them. If we just make the simple plays and execute when the scoring opportunities were there, we go in to the 4th quarter with a chance to win this game.
