Post-Game Reaction: Bama, Refs, and ESPN, Oh My!

Tennessee lost again to Alabama on Saturday night, marking the Vols’ 13th-straight loss to the Tide. But Saturday’s loss was different than most of the other losses to Alabama over the last decade-plus.

The Vols had Alabama feeling nervous in the fourth quarter, as UT only trailed 28-13 and had the ball inside Alabama’s 10 halfway through the final quarter of the game. Tennessee pushed the ball all the way down to the one, and on fourth down, Jarrett Guarantano tried to jump over the pile on a quarterback sneak.

It didn’t work out.

Instead, Guarantano fumbled the ball, Alabama’s Trevon Diggs picked it up, and he sprinted 100 yards the opposite direction for a touchdown to give the Tide a decisive 35-13 lead.

Between that, some very questionable officiating, injuries, and ESPN’s announcers and sideline reporters, there was plenty to react to after the Vols’ loss to Alabama late Saturday night.

Managing editor Nathanael Rutherford hosted the weekly RTI Post-Game Reaction Show late Saturday night to discuss all the ins and outs of Tennessee’s 35-13 loss to the Tide. If you missed any of the show live, you can catch a full repay of the show below:
