Four-star in-state tight end decommits from Vols

Four-star tight end Hudson Wolfe has decommitted from Tennessee, Wolfe announced on Twitter Thursday morning. Wolfe, one of the top-ranked player in the state of Tennessee, had been committed to the Vols since June 15.

“While playing college football has always been a goal, 5 years ago I could have never imagined what the recruiting process is like,” Wolfe said in a statement he tweeted out. “It has been a privilege to go through that process.

“Over the last 2 years, the UT coaches have been great, specifically Coach Pruitt, Coach Os, and most recently Coach Fulmer. I’m grateful for the time spent with them. That’s what makes this a difficult decision. After countless hours of careful deliberation, I have decided to decommit from UT.”

The Savannah, Tennessee native is ranked as the No. 216 overall player in the country according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Wolfe is ranked as the No. 7 overall player in the state of Tennessee and the sixth-best tight end.

Wolfe is the fourth recruit to decommit from the Vols since Thanksgiving day, joining five-star linebacker Terrence Lewis, four-star corner Damarius McGhee and three-star defensive end Darrell Jackson as the others to decommit.

Tennessee now has two tight ends committed in the class of 2021 in three-star Miles Campbell from Douglasville, Georgia and three-star athlete Trinity Bell from Albertville, Alabama. Bell could also play along the defensive line.

The Vols’ class now ranks No. 14 overall and fifth in the SEC according to the 247Sports team composite rankings.

  1. Everyone is quick to assume that this is due to UT’s record this year. No one is looking at the fact that he did not play this year due to back surgery and hasn’t been cleared yet. This may be a staff not willing to take a chance on a player who isn’t 100%.
