Titans vs. Texans Game Preview

Win and you’re in. That is the situation that the Tennessee Titans are in right now after getting manhandled by the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night. Last week’s matchup was always going to be a tough road game but now they must win in order to guarantee themselves a playoff spot. If they win on Sunday, the Titans will claim ownership of the AFC South division and a home playoff game. Should they lose and the Colts win, the Colts would win the AFC South. They do hold the tiebreaker over the Colts so if the Colts lose and the Titans lose, the Titans would still win the division at 10-6.

Thankfully for Tennessee, their playoff hopes are not only lost on the division. They could easily make the playoffs if the Colts win and the Titans lose to the Texans. In order to get a wild card spot, the Miami Dolphins would have to lose to the Buffalo Bills. The Titans are not expected to lose this game as the Texans have been horrific of late. The Cincinnati Bengals beat up on Deshaun Watson and the Texans last week resulting in their third win of the season. The total is set at 56.5 by DraftKings Sportsbook.

NFL Week 17 Injury Report

Tennessee Titans

WR AJ Brown does not often practice at this point. He will be out there despite his no shows at practice.

WR Corey Davis was added to the injury report on Wednesday but he will be out there as well. His practice on Thursday leads to a strong chance of playing in week 17.

RT Dennis Kelly did not practice on Wednesday but we would expect him to play. He has been excellent this season after struggling to win the job during training camp.

CB Adoree Jackson opened up this week with a, did not practice but he was active against the Packers. Expect him to be ready to play.

OL Roger Saffold has been banged up all season but he is getting healthy at the right time.

C Ben Jones has had an ankle injury but was limited in practice this week.

Houston Texans

LT Laremy Tunsil is a legitimate pro bowl offensive tackle. He did not practice on Wednesday with an ankle injury. There is little incentive for the Titans to risk their major investment in week 17.

G Brent Qvale has a concussion. The situation is worth monitoring because getting out of concussion protocol is crucial to getting clearance to play.

AFC South Standings After Week 15

  1. Tennessee Titans 10-5
  2. Indianapolis Colts 10-5
  3. Houston Texans 4-11
  4. Jacksonville Jaguars 1-14

Implied Win Probability – Titans 77.53% Texans 25.64%

The Tennessee Titans are 7.5 point favorites against the Houston Texans. Sports bettors should always be calculating implied win probability prior to placing their bet. This will help the bettor put a clear percentage on the odds you are being given. Furthermore, implied win probability will help you find value easier than just in the form of odds.

In this case, the Tennessee Titans are -345 to beat the Texans. This would calculate to 77.53% chance to win Sunday’s matchup. Conversely, the Texans are +290 to win the game on Sunday. This would calculate to a 25.64% chance to win their week 17 matchup. This would appear to be an excellent spot for the Titans. The Texans are coming off of a six-point defeat to the two-win Bengals.

Sports Betting Trends

Texans are 5-11 ATS in their last 16 games

The Texans have nothing to play for in this one and have been an abomination this season. Week 17 is very often a week of blowouts where teams are trying to acquire the best draft pick. Unfortunately, the Texans traded their pick to Miami so they don’t have much to look forward to.

The total has gone under in 5 of 7 games for Houston

We know for sure that the Titans are a scoring machine. However, the Texans have been a disaster this year. This is a game where they have little to play for other than protecting Deshaun Watson and Laremy Tunsil. Romeo Crenel knows he is not the coach of the future, the Texans just need this year to end.

DraftKings Best Bet: Titans -7.5

Best Bet Record 9-4
