Tennessee transfer running back Eric Gray entered the transfer portal last Wednesday night. A week later, the sophomore announced that he was committing to Oklahoma, joining fellow Tennessee transfers Wanya Morris and Key Lawrence in Norman.

“Vol Nation. I love you guys,” Gray said at the time when he announced he was transferring. “You have been unbelievably supportive. Tennessee will forever be my home. You are the best fans in the country and I just want to say THANK YOU for giving the young kid out of Memphis an opportunity to play at the next level. You are my FAMILY.”

Gray departs after two seasons. He played in all 23 games and made five starts since arriving at Tennessee. Gray led the team in rushing and had the second-most receptions on the team as a sophomore in 2020. He scored 10 total touchdowns in his last 12 games dating back to the 2019 season.

He finished his freshman season with back-to-back dazzling performances, combining for 366 total yards and four scores against Vanderbilt and Indiana. His 246 rushing yards against the Commodores is the most ever by a true freshman in Tennessee history. Gray recorded the second-longest rushing touchdown in program history and the 10th-longest in SEC history on a 94-yard run in the second quarter against Vanderbilt.

Gray was one of four Tennessee players to enter the transfer portal last Wednesday. Linebacker Henry To’o To’o, linebacker Quavaris Crouch and offensive lineman Jahmir Johnson joined him.
