Branson Robinson, a five-star running back who listed Tennessee among his top-three teams, is set to announce his commitment on Thursday afternoon.

Robinson, a 5-foot-10, 220-pound power-back, will make his decision on CBSSports HQ on Thursday, July 22, at 3:00 p.m. ET according to 247Sports.

The Madison, MS native is a five-star recruit and the top-ranked running back according to Rivals. He is also listed on the site as the No. 16 player nationally.

Robinson is the top-ranked player in the state of Mississippi on both Rivals and 247Sports. However, he is ranked slightly lower as a four-star, and the ninth-ranked running back overall in the class for 247Sports.

Either way you look at it though, Robinson is one of the most sought-after backs in the class.

Robinson listed six teams as finalists on Wednesday: Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi State, LSU, Clemson, and Tennessee.

“The new coaching staff they have [at Tennessee] now is amazing,” Robinson said in the interview with 247Sports. “The way they prioritize me and want me to come in and play earlier – you know if I were to go there, I could probably start because the running depth chart at Tennessee isn’t deep. I would have a great chance to compete and start as a freshman.”

However, Robinson has only taken three official visits though.

Robinson first visited Georgia on June 4. Then, on June 18, Robinson took a visit to Alabama. And finally, on June 25, Branson Robinson closed out the month with an official visit to Tennessee.

“Really, it’s between those three,” Robinson told 247Sports in the interview.

Robinson would be a massive addition for coach Josh Heupel and the Tennessee recruiting class. So much in fact, that the five-star running back would instantly be the highest graded commit for coach Heupel’s class by a significant margin.

Currently, Heupel has 11 commits in the class of 2022. The highest-ranked of which is four-star QB Tayven Jackson. Jackson is graded at 0.8996, whereas Robinson is graded at .9796. That’s not to make a comparison between the players, either. It is more so to show how much of a priority Robinson is for Tennessee. And, how it could be the start of a strong future connection for the Tennessee offense.

Robinson, who is currently being recruited by Tennessee running backs coach Jerry Mack, would certainly be a difference-maker for Tennessee from the time he steps on the field.

Although, it will be an uphill battle for the Vols. Tennessee currently does not hold a crystal ball prediction for five-star running back Branson Robinson. However, with Tennessee still being said to be in his Top-3 after his final visit in June, there could always be a chance.

  1. Obviously the kid is a hoss and if he indeed possess the mental and physical skills required to play football at a high level of intensity Tennessee would provide him the opportunity to establish himself a strong foothold in the game of survival in his future life.
The other schools also provide the same opportunity therefore he hopefully will choose the opportunity wisely and take advantage of a once in a lifetime opportunity That God has provided him.
