Jauan Jennings Praised by 49ers HC: “Plays Like His Hair Is On Fire”

Former Tennessee wide receiver Jauan Jennings made his name in Knoxville from his highly infectious energy, his passion for the game of football, and his touchdown catches. And now, as the 49ers approach their second preseason game, it’s safe to assume that Jennings did bring all three traits to San Francisco, too.

Jennings has been making headlines left and right since he made it to his sophomore year of 49ers camp. Which, in itself was later than normal, due to his placement on the reserve/Covid-19 list. But, it’s been his workouts in fall camp that have impressed the Niners’ coaches. This includes head coach Kyle Shanahan, as well.

“I’ve been extremely impressed with Jauan,” Shanahan said about the WR’s play last week after the 49ers’ first preseason game. “How he’s gone out there and done that. And it’s only one game in, but I need everyone else to get to that level also.”

Jennings is entering his second NFL season but is hoping to end it better than he did in 2020. Not only did the 49ers miss the playoffs, but Jennings was put on the Injury Reserve list in October after a severe hamstring injury.

“It’s old school, and [Jennings] goes out there, and he competes,” Kyle Shanahan said earlier this week at 49ers camp. “It’s been nice for him to get back, get healthy, and it was good to see him in his first game. That’s how he looked in college. Jauan, he plays like his hair is on fire, and I think a lot of our receivers can learn from watching him.”

Shanahan and the 49ers knew exactly what they were getting out of Jennings when they took him from Tennessee, and clearly, they liked it. The Niners were likely into his physical, aggressive, and passionate play while donning the orange.

“I feel better,” Jennings said at Niners fall camp, according to NBC Sports. “I’m just working my tail off. I can’t wait until the next one. I love football. That’s why I chose it. I got to play like that for my team. I just try and go out there and make the best plays.”

49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings had a productive night in the Niners preseason opener against Trey Smith’s Chiefs. Jennings had one reception and two rushes accounting for 49 total yards. Although, both rushing attempts weren’t actual rushing attempts. Jennings was out as a receiver and caught a screen pass behind the line of scrimmage on both occasions.

Jauan Jennings and the 49ers will take on Josh Palmer and the Los Angeles Chargers this Sunday night. Both teams will square off in their second preseason game.
