Tennessee Titans Tease Interest in Former Vol Playmaker

Tennessee Titans GM Jon Robinson Gets Emotional

With the NFL Combine officially underway, teams are getting an up-close and personal look at many of the athletes participating in the events. And of those teams, the Tennessee Titans look to have an interest in at least one of the players from the Volunteer State.

During the combine on Thursday, the Titans’ social media account tweeted out a teaser post featuring former Tennessee wide receiver Velus Jones Jr.

“I talked to the Titans,” Jones said on Wednesday via the Titans. “I think we have a great feel for each other. They liked me a lot. That would be amazing. I went to Nashville twice and I enjoyed the area. Tennessee, I like the area, the vibes. That would be a great spot to fall … I know they have A.J. (Brown) and Julio (Jones) there, but they’d look at me as a slot. But I’m physical and strong enough to also play outside and make a lot of plays.”

Titans’ reporter Jim Wyatt also shared the video of Jones Jr’s interview from the NFL Combine to Twitter on Wednesday.

Jones Jr showed exactly how dynamic he can be with the ball in his hands last year at Tennessee. The former transfer playmaker was able to scorch defenses on the outside, from the slot, or via the kick return.

As Jones Jr pointed out in his interview, the Tennessee Titans already have two physical down-the-field threats on the outside in Brown and Jones. But what Velus Jones could provide, however, is that burst of speed and unpredictability from the slot position.

After being paired up with Josh Heupel’s new offensive system last year, Jones Jr finished his final season at Tennessee with 807 yards and seven touchdowns on 62 receptions.

In addition to Jones Jr, though, former Tennessee offensive lineman Cade Mays has also been connected with the Titans while at the NFL Combine this week. According to 104.5 The Zone’s Buck Reising, Mays did speak with the Titans while participating in the Senior Bowl in February.
