Buffalo Bills Favored Over Super Bowl Champion LA Rams

The oddsmakers at DraftKings have held the spread at +/-2.5 for the last few weeks. The Bills, even as the road team, are favored and expected to win, based on the best defense in the NFL last season, and a high-powered offense that scored at least 35 points seven times in 2021-22.

The defending Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams have improved. The team added eight-time Pro Bowler Bobby Wagner to the linebacker corps. Nick Scott has taken over at free safety, which gives the Rams’ defense a quicker, more physical secondary. The LA offense led by Cooper Kupp (almost 2,000 yards receiving) and three other receivers who topped 500 yards in the air are back.

Ozzy Osbourne will play the halftime show at SoFi Stadium on Thursday. His 1992 song “Mama, I’m Coming Home,” is one of his biggest hits. The Rams can celebrate staying home for this season opener. Their last win was on the same field in February in Super Bowl LVI. No team has repeated as NFL champions since 2005, but if quarterback Matthew Stafford stays healthy, and with Aaron Donald and Cooper Kupp building their Hall of Fame cases in the blue-and-yellow, LA has a good chance to accomplish it.

Rams backers beware: news is coming out of training camp that Stafford’s right wing, one of the most prized limbs in the sport, is not 100% sound. Stafford said on Twitter last week that the issue  is “general soreness.” But the former Detroit QB had similar aches and pains when he was suffering as a Lion, and he’s had elbow injuries before. If Stafford goes down, his team will plummet as a Super Bowl contender.

But that speculation is long-term, and we’re interested in the short term, where the Rams and Bills stage one of the most anticipated opening games of recent history. Josh Allen nearly threw the Buffalo into the AFC Championship Game with nine TD passes in two playoff games. He now has 14 touchdown passes and just one interception in six playoff games.

The Rams are listed at +1200 from DraftKings to win Super Bowl 2023, and +550 to win the NFC.

DraftKings NY has the Bills at +550 to win the Super Bowl and +280 to come out of the AFC as conference champion.
