The final College Football Playoff Top 6 has officially been released as of early Sunday afternoon. While the full Top 25 rankings won’t come out until late Sunday afternoon, the first six were revealed just after noon eastern time.

The Tennessee Volunteers land at No. 6 in the final set of College Football Playoff rankings before postseason play officially begins.

In one of the most talked-about topics around the sport all week, Tennessee still lands behind Alabama. The Crimson Tide come in as the No. 5 team in the nation despite a 52-49 head-to-head loss to Tennessee and identical 10-2 records.

Georgia lands as the No. 1 seed in the playoffs after an SEC Championship victory against LSU on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs will take on No. 4 Ohio State as the Buckeyes are the last team to sneak into the playoffs.

Michigan, the Big 10 Champion, will be the No. 2 seed and take on Big 12 runner-up TCU as the No. 3 seed in the playoffs.

The College Football Playoffs Top 6 are as follows:

  1. Georgia (13-0)
  2. Michigan (13-0)
  3. TCU (12-1)
  4. Ohio State (11-1)
  5. Alabama (10-2)
  6. Tennessee (10-2)

With the rankings as they are, it’s very likely that Tennessee will get extended a bid to the Capital One Orange Bowl against ACC Champion Clemson. Alabama, on the other hand, will likely receive a selection to the Allstate Sugar Bowl as the highest-ranked non-playoff team from the SEC.

The New Year’s Six bowls will be officially announced on Sunday afternoon.

  1. Top 10 teams don’t lose by four touchdowns to four loss teams. Alabama lost their games by a total of four points.

  2. 3. Plus top ten teams don’t win bye 1 to a four loss Texas team and a four loss LSU team and didn’t beat the Vols period bama came very close to having 4 losses on the year you want to talk top 10 teams don’t get beat bye a 4 loss teams well bama did LSU sorry but four losses they have plus almost lost to 8-4 Texas 9-3 ole miss keep talking because you put your own foot in your mouth

  4. Bama’s best win was #21 Texas. Bama lost on the road to LSU. Tennessee curb stomped the same LSU team on the road and most importantly, TENNESSEE BEAT bama HEAD TO HEAD.

  5. However, you were blown out by South Carolina. How many times did Alabama get blown out? I rest my case. Maybe a little common logic missing. I understand you are hungry due to the many down years you all have suffered. I know you all are back, but you have to take off those rose colored glasses.
