Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel and Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney took part in the 2022 Capital One Orange Bowl kickoff press conference from Miami, Florida on Wednesday afternoon.

No. 6 Tennessee and No. 7 Clemson will square off in the prestigious bowl game on Friday, Dec. 30, in Hard Rock Stadium.

Addressing the obvious elephant in the room, this looks to be the “orange-est” possible Orange Bowl in the history of the Orange Bowl. Clemson and Tennessee both bring a distinct shade of orange to the table and will carry those colors proudly into the game.

Near the middle of the press conference on Wednesday, that very subject was addressed.

“You want to get together and see how much orange we can get on the field at one time?” Heupel asked Swinney while both couldn’t help but burst out into laughter.

Clemson is known for wearing orange pants in championship/big-time games. With Clemson being the home team in this matchup as the ACC Champion, many have speculated that the Tigers will be wearing orange jerseys, orange pants, and orange helmets.

Dabo threw a wrinkle in that idea, though.

“I think we’re orange pants and maybe white jerseys,” Swinney said. “I think that’s what the guys – I think we got to pick, if I remember right. My equipment guy, I asked him what players wanted to do. I think we’re white on orange. I think that’s what we’re wearing. But we’ve got orange helmets, orange tape, and orange shoes. We’ve got a lot of it.”

“You’re getting the thumbs up in the back, I think you had the right uni combination,” Heupel said to Swinney.

That leaves room for Tennessee to possibly go with the traditional orange-and-white look, which is rather shocking after hearing that the Vols would be the “visiting” team. Either way, though, Heupel is sticking to what he has done all season by putting that decision in the hands of the players.

“I don’t know what they’ve picked,” Heupel said referring to Clemson. “Our guys pick the uniforms every week. So I’m sure there will be a ton of orange in it.”

A few big clues on the road to the official uniform reveals – that’s for sure.

Clemson did wear the orange on white on orange look for the ACC Championship game last weekend, as well.

Could this be the uniform matchup between Tennessee and Clemson in the 2022 Capital One Orange Bowl?

  1. I am so proud and happy with our 2022 Tennessee Volunteers. They are my favorite Tennessee team. My favorite before them was the 1985 Sugar Vols . Go Vols.
