Tennessee’s Regular Season Performance in NCAA Baseball

This season, Tennessee is 36-17 overall but just 14-13 in their conference matchups. The conference record has weakened oddsmakers’ confidence in the Vols’ ability to compete at the highest level.

At home, the team is 32-5, while it is 2-11 on the road — another detail that doesn’t bode well for their postseason performance. After a win over Belmont on Tuesday night, the Vols have won 13 of their last 16 games, beginning with a three-game sweep of Vanderbilt in late April.

The matchup that hurt Tennessee’s odds the most was the mid-April series against Arkansas on the Razorbacks’ home field. The Vols went down in all three games, scoring eight runs overall to the Razorback’s 18.

Arkansas had already passed Tennessee in the odds to win the World Series, and it seems it deserved that estimation. But don’t count Tennessee out. Since those losses, they’ve won three SEC conference series (against No. 2 Vanderbilt, unranked Mississippi State, and No. 15 Kentucky) and lost just one (against unranked Georgia).

It’ll be a tough road in the postseason, but Tennessee has shown it has a chance, at its best, to claim a title.
