Trio Of Tennessee Pitchers Enter The Transfer Portal

Tennessee baseball pitchers Shawn Scott, Jacob Bimbi and Turner Swistak entered the transfer portal Tuesday, D1Baseball and Joe Doyle first reported Tuesday.

The three seldom used Tennessee bullpen arms entered the portal on its first day officially open.

Bimbi spent just one year at Tennessee after transferring in from junior college. The left-handed pitcher is very talented and was poised to have an active role for the Vols this spring after an impressive fall.

However, things didn’t materialize for Bimbi as he posted a 5.27 ERA in 13.2 innings pitched this season. The left-handed pitcher struggled to consistently throw strikes in his lone season in Knoxville, failing to capitalize on an opportunity to be a consistent bullpen contributor.

The Vols use both Zander Sechrist and Kirby Connell in shorter outings but with Wyatt Evans missing the entirety of the season, Tennessee could have used another reliable lefty. Bimbi didn’t travel with the team to South Carolina or the SEC Tournament as his role diminished as the season went on.

The right-handed Turner Swistak transferred to Tennessee from a junior college entering this season but didn’t pitch for the Vols any this season.

The left-handed Shawn Scott had been a member of the Tennessee baseball team for a number of seasons but hadn’t pitched for the Vols in a game since posting a 6.75 ERA in 2.2 innings pitched during the 2021 season.

None of the trio figured to be the factors in Tennessee baseball’s bullpen this postseason. While three Tennessee pitchers entered the transfer portal before the NCAA Tournament begins most of the Vols action in the portal, both ingoing and outgoing, will likely occur after the season end.

The Vols open NCAA Tournament play against Charlotte at 6 p.m. ET Friday night in the Clemson Regional.
