Tennessee football commit Jonathan Echols is completely shutting down his recruitment, Echols announced on Twitter Tuesday afternoon.

Echols was Tennessee football’s first commit in the 2024 recruiting class, committing to the Vols last July 4. The tight end is a blue-chip recruit and a major recruiting win for Tennessee. But after committing early in the cycle and Tennessee offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Alex Golesh leaving for South Florida, Echols took other visits.

While many teams pursued Echols, the IMG Academy standout only visited Florida after committing to Tennessee. Echols visited Gainesville in January and again earlier this month for his official visit.

But after taking his official visit to Tennessee last weekend, Echols decided on the Vols for good.

Echols ranks as a four-star recruit and the No. 105 player in the country according to the 247sports composite rankings. While 247sports ranks Echols as an athlete, the On3 consensus rankings have Echols as the No. 11 tight end in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

The 6-foot-4, 230 pound tight end is Tennessee’s only tight end commit in its 2024 class and holding on to him is a big win for new tight ends coach Alec Abeln. Tennessee is still looking to add a second tight end commit to its recruiting class.

Tennessee’s 2024 recruiting class currently contains 14 commits with Echols being the second highest rated commit. The Vols’ 14 commit recruiting class ranks 10th nationally according to the 247sports team rankings.
