Four-star linebacker Edwin Spillman is announcing his college commitment Friday after a long recruitment. The Nashville native recently cut his top group from four to two and is deciding between Ohio State and the instate Vols.

Tennessee has long targeted the Lipscomb Academy linebacker. Spillman is a blue-chip recruit and the younger brother of incoming Vols’ freshman Nate Spillman.

The younger Spillman brother ranks as a four-star recruit and the nation’s No. 334 player according to the 247sports composite rankings. The instate prospect also ranks as the state’s eighth best prep player and the No. 28 linebacker in the country.

Tennessee enters Spillman’s Friday decision with momentum on the recruiting trail. The Vols beat out powers Clemson, Georgia and Southern Cal for five-star receiver Mike Matthews Wednesday night.

The next two weeks could be massive for the Vols’ 2024 recruiting class. Four-star cornerback Cai Bates is announcing his college commitment early next week while instate four-star Amari Jefferson will decided between Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee in the opening week of August.

Ahead of Spillman’s Friday announcement, Tennessee football’s 2024 recruiting class includes 17 commitments— one five-star, 11 four-stars and five three-stars.

Four-star Georgia linebacker Jordan Burns is currently the only linebacker in the Vols’ 2024 recruiting class.

Tennessee’s 17 commit recruiting class ranks No. 11 nationally according to the 247sports team rankings. Spillman committing to Tennessee would bolster the Vols class to eighth nationally.

  1. Having moved to OSU’s back yard I have been pleasantly surprised by the number of Vol fans I run across in the supermarket, Costco, etc. Rocky top is definitely on the way up and our fans are very excited about what is happening with the athletic department in Knoxville.
