Tennessee football opens its open date 3-1 (1-1 SEC) after defeating South Carolina 41-20 at Neyland Stadium last week.

The open date presents Vol fans a chance to catch their breathe after September and gives them free time. So what can Tennessee fans watch in the sports world without Vol football?

Here’s three good options.

Multitude Of Other Tennessee Sports

Tennessee football isn’t playing this weekend but there’s a number of other Vols sports happening on Tennessee’s campus and beyond.

Tennessee softball is playing three exhibition games at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium this weekend. The Lady Vols will face Carson Newman (noon) and Georgia State (4 p.m.) on Saturday before facing Charlotte (1 p.m.) on Sunday.

Sunday is a LSU hate day for Tennessee sports. Tennessee volleyball is looking to continue its breakout season when it hosts the Tigers at Thompson-Boling Arena at 1 p.m. ET Sunday. You don’t have to make it to Thompson-Boling Arena to watch the Lady Vols either. ESPN2 is broadcasting the matchup.

Down in Baton Rouge, Tennessee soccer faces LSU as it continues SEC play. The Lady Vols are 1-1-3 in SEC play this season and is coming off three straight ties against South Carolina, Mississippi State and Kentucky.

Scout Tennessee Football Opponents

I’ll be spending most of my Saturday on the couch watching SEC football and scouting the rest of the Vols’ schedule.

Tennessee’s next two opponents face off in one of the best games of the Saturday slate when Nick Saban takes the Alabama Crimson Tide to Texas A&M. The Aggies come to Knoxville next weekend and Tennessee heads to Tuscaloosa the following Saturday.

A number of other future Tennessee opponents have intriguing games this week. Georgia hosts Kentucky in a SEC East battle between two teams Tennessee will face later this season. The Vols won’t face LSU this season but the Tigers trip to Missouri should be a good measuring stick ahead of Tennessee’s November trip to Columbia.

VFLs In The NFL On Sunday

Between watching Tennessee volleyball and soccer on Sunday, there’s a full slate of NFL games providing a good chance to watch the VFLs in the NFL.

This has been one of the most intriguing recent seasons for Tennessee football players in the NFL. Josh Dobbs earns his fifth start of the season when the Cardinals host the Cincinnati Bengals.

Former Tennessee receiver Josh Palmer is off to the best start of his career after fellow Chargers receiver Mike Williams suffered a season ending injury and former Tennessee running back Alvin Kamara is playing his second game after serving a three-game suspension to open the season. Sticking in New Orleans, Alontae Taylor has stepped forward as a quality starter in the Saints’ defensive backfield.

Tennessee rookies in the NFL are also off to a strong start. Byron Young is a starter for the Rams and Jalin Hyatt is starting to get more opportunities with the Giants.

The 11-game NFL slate gives Tennessee fans a chance to watch plenty of former Vols in the league.
