Tennessee Basketball Announces Orange Out For Alabama Game

Tennessee basketball’s Saturday afternoon showdown against Alabama is an “orange out” the Vols announced on Wednesday night.

The Vols haven’t done an orange out at Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center in recent years instead opting to “Checker TBA”. Tennessee still has a number of highly touted home conference matchups remaining where they could renew the “Checker TBA” tradition.

While Tennessee hasn’t done an orange out for basketball games, they did do an orange out at Neyland Stadium for the Vols’ win over Alabama in 2022.

The Vols enter the rivalry showdown 13-4 (2-1 SEC) and riding a two-game winning streak after knocking off Georgia in Athens and Florida in Knoxville. Dalton Knecht enters the game against a lackluster Alabama defense on a tear, scoring 103 points over the last three games.

Alabama isn’t in the AP Top 25 but the metrics love the Crimson Tide. Alabama ranks seventh in KenPom thanks to having the nation’s top offense. The Crimson Tide enter the matchup 12-5 (3-0 SEC) and as one of just two unbeaten teams in SEC play.

Tennessee knocked off No. 1 Alabama 68-59 in Knoxville last season after the Vols lost their previous three meetings with the Crimson Tide.

Tipoff at Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center is at 2 p.m. ET with gates opening at 12:30 p.m. ET. ESPN2 is broadcasting the rivalry matchup.
