Tennessee football dominated in its week two victory over NC State in Charlotte. The performance of two Vols in the blowout win was good enough for them to earn SEC weekly honors.

Vols quarterback Nico Iamaleava earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors while center Cooper Mays earned Co-Offensive Lineman of the Week honors.

Iamaleava completed 16-of-23 passes for 211 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the Vols’ win over NC State. The redshirt freshman quarterback also made plays with his legs, totaling 65 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown on just eight carries.

It’s the second consecutive week that Iamaleava has earned at least a share of SEC Freshman of the Week honors. Iamaleava is the first SEC player to earn that honor in each of the first two weeks of the season since Alabama’s Terry Grant in 2007.

Mays split SEC Offensive Lineman of the week honors with Texas’ Jake Majors. With Mays at center, Tennessee football rushed for 249 yards on 44 carries against NC State. The Vols completely controlled the line of scrimmage against the Wolfpack and Mays was one of the main reasons why.

According to PFF, Mays was the third highest graded offensive lineman for Tennessee in the win. The super senior earned a 64.9 grade overall including a 76.5 pass block grade and a 61.1 run block grade.

Mays, Iamaleava and the Vols return to the field this Saturday when they host Kent State at Neyland Stadium. Kickoff is at 7:45 p.m. ET. Tom Hart, Jordan Rodgers and Cole Cubelic are on the call for the SEC Network.
