Former Tennessee running back Jaylen Wright was inactive in his first regular season week in the NFL. But just four days later, Wright could see a significant role as the Miami Dolphins host the Buffalo Bills on Thursday Night Football.

What changed for Wright in such a small time frame? Dolphins’ starting running back De’Von Achane is questionable for the matchup while backup Raheem Mostert is definitively out. However, Wright isn’t the only other running back available for the Dolphins as Jeff Wilson is expected to be available.

Miami drafted Wright in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft after a breakout junior season at Tennessee. In the preseason, Wright carried the ball 17 times for 92 yards and one touchdown.

Wright totaled 368 carries for 2,297 yards and 18 touchdowns in his three seasons at Tennessee but became a true breakout star in his junior season. Over the course of the 2023 season, Wright rushed for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns on just 137 carries. The Durham, North Carolina native became the first Tennessee player to rush for 1,000 yards in a season since Jalen Hurd during the 2015 season.

The 5-foot-10, 210-pound running back’s fantastic season was good enough for him to earn Second Team All-SEC honors from the Associated Press.

Kickoff between the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills is at 8:15 p.m. ET. Amazon Prime Video is streaming the matchup.
