Few former Tennessee football players in the NFL enjoy repping their alma mater more than San Fransisco 49ers quarterback Josh Dobbs. And with Tennessee football having more success than they did in the years following his graduation, Dobbs is having more fun repping the Vols during the Josh Heupel era.

With Tennessee off to a strong start to the 2024 season, Dobbs could be in for some fun this season. He made the most of Tennessee’s SEC opening win over Oklahoma, trolling 49ers tight end and former Oklahoma tight end Brayden Willis.

Dobbs gave Willis a box of Tennessee gear earlier this week, making Willis put on a Tennessee hat and shirt in the 49ers’ locker room.

Willis is a second-year tight end from Oklahoma who played a week ago in the 49ers loss against the Los Angeles Rams but has yet to catch a pass this season. Dobbs is in his first season with the 49ers and is backing up quarterback Brock Purdy. The former Tennessee quarterback has yet to play this season after starting almost the entirety of last season both with the Cardinals and Vikings.

Dobbs isn’t the only Vol in the NFL that’s having fun this season. Former Tennessee offensive lineman Trey Smith also won bets because of Tennessee’s win over Oklahoma and had a number of his Kansas City Chiefs teammates wearing Vols gear earlier this week.

Following Tennessee’s week two win over NC State, New England Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo brought his quarterback Jacoby Brissett a Tennessee sweatshirt to wear during his weekly press conference. Rookie quarterback Joe Milton III was also in on the bet that made the Patriots’ starting quarterback and former NC State standout wear Tennessee gear.

There will be plenty of opportunities remaining for former Tennessee players in the NFL to have friendly wager on Vols’ games this season with Tennessee facing Florida, Alabama and Georgia later this season.
